    Eyebrow Threading: A Guide

    Share

Originating in eastern India a long time ago, you’d be surprised at how regularly eyebrow threading is used today. It’s a low cost and highly effective way of shaping brows and requires minimal aftercare. However, threading eyebrows is complex, so you need to make sure you hire a professional to do it for you. Below are some tips on eyebrow threading that you need to consider.

    Don’t try it at home

Unlike other eyebrow treatments and general maintenance of your brows, eyebrow threading should not be done at home. Eyebrow threading is a process achieved by trapping and pulling hairs from their root using a piece of cotton. To grip the hairs correctly, it’s necessary to pull the skin taught, which is often done by the person having their eyebrows worked on. This allows the person threading the brow to use both hands to pull the cotton successfully, thus completing the threading process. As such, we strongly advise you not to try this intricate process at home! Book an appointment in a salon and have a pro take care of the brow threading for you.

Use a specialist that you trust

In your search for a specialist, make sure you find someone you can trust. If possible, go with someone’s recommendation or schedule an appointment with a specialist who has received many positive reviews. Another thing to check is that your chosen brow specialist offers a consultation before you begin, as this will allow you to choose the appropriate style. Trusted and experienced specialists will draw your brow with a pencil first before starting the threading process. This is an important step as you can see if your chosen shape fits your face.

    Work from brow to brow

When you’re happy with your chosen specialist, ask them if they work brow to brow before they get started. Working brow to brow means they see how the brows compare during treatment, which means your brows will be more symmetrical. While this isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, it’s better than having a specialist work on one brow completely before starting on the next.

    Desensitise your skin

While threading is typically a pain-free process, it can be a little uncomfortable for some people. Therefore, desensitising your skin before you get started is a good idea. You can use clove oil for this, as it’s anti-microbial and anti-septic, among other things, making it great at numbing your skin naturally. The key ingredient within is eugenol, which helps to numb pain. As such, a small application of clove oil can make a world of difference.

    Maintain your brows after treatment

After you have had your brows threaded, you might be tempted to dive back in and re-apply your creams and other makeup right away. However, it’s better to close up the pores and hair follicles and let your brows settle before adding anything to them. Running an ice cube across your brows will help to close the pores, or you could wear an eye mask if you prefer. After 5-6 hours, you can then start work on your eyebrows as you normally would.

We hope you found these tips on eyebrow threading helpful! It’s certainly a good option if you’re hoping to breathe new life into your brows and smarten your appearance.
